Acoustic Morissette CD Sets Starbucks Record

Alanism(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) It is yet to be seen how much impact a Canadian record store boycott will have on her new album, but sales of Alanis Morissette’s acoustic disc at Starbucks have already set a new record for the coffee chain.

Selling more than 61,000 copies in the week after its release on June 13, "Jagged Little Pill Acoustic" set the mark for the biggest single-week CD sales in the short history of the Starbucks Hear Music project. The original alternative rock "Jagged Little Pill" album, released 10 years ago, sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.

In a unique agreement between Starbucks and Maverick Records, the record is being sold exclusively through the coffee shops in the United States and Canada for the first six weeks of its release, to coincide with Morissette’s acoustic tour, "The Diamond Wink Tour." Record stores have reacted angrily, including Canadian nationwide chain HMV, by pulling her music from shelves.
