Google Music Trends Launches

Google Labs has launched Google Music Trends, an opt-in service that allows Google to track what you listen to on your computer via a link in it’s Google Talk application in conjunction with a chosen player like iTunes or WinAmp.  The results combined with other users are displayed in a gGooglemtrendsenre chart format on the Music Trends home page.

The new service has too few users yet to be useful to music marketers, but as it evolves it could provide instant insights into what early adopters are listening to.  It’s also another interesting piece on the Google puzzle (along with Music Search) which places value on the powerful connection that people have to music even while denying that a Google download service is in the works.

  1. This combined with their last Myspace move, to me is obvious they are trying to collect massive amount of consumer listening habit.
THEY ARE already in music business, except nobody consider what they are doing is “music business” yet.
I give them 2-3 years to finally make a more obvious move that will affect music industry.
Google is by far the most competent player when it come to large scale system. They can replace the entire industry, short of the audio hardware in single scoop.
they have the payment system, they know what people are doing online, and now they are about to gain data of consumer listening habit.
all they have to do is add “music” into the mix and they are in. big way.
btw, Microsoft Zune is a loser. sorry. hardware and price is weak.
