Ian Rogers To Head Yahoo! Music

Ian Rogers has been named GM of Yahoo! Music according to Billboard.biz.  He replaces both David Goldberg and Robert Roback who last week announced their resignations. Rogers was most recently VP of product development for Yahoo Music and will report to Vince Broady who heads entertainment Yahoomusic_5
for the company.

Like most download and subscription services other than iTunes and perhaps eMusic, Yahoo has struggled to gain consumer traction. But Rogers has been promoted just as sea of change appears about to take place in the sector.  Some smaller players will probably fall buy the wayside and powerful new competition like Amazon will enter the fray.  But most importantly, more labels seem poised to drop DRM which will not only spark consumer interest but also level the playing field by providing iPod compatibly.
