Big Changes Appear Imminent At Yahoo! Music

Yahoo Music, which has failed to gain real traction and gotten even less respect thus far, seems poised for some kind of announcement or left turn.

Yahoo exec Ian Rogers gave some hints in a convoluted but fascinating presentation at Aspen Live (maybe it was better in person) which he
recapped on his bog Fistfulayen.  In the talk he advocates for the merger of content with context (user generated content from fans) to create useful  information that helps people decide what they want to consume. To help accomplish this, he calls for more open source technology that can be shared between sites and users on a multitude of platforms.

Rogers has always been an evangelist for change in the music industry and once again, as he did with his early call for labels to drop DRM, he may have hit on a concept that will bear fruit in the future. Hopefully this time, Yahoo can lead instead of follow the trend.
