Apple’s Big Music Event Today At 10AM Pacific

Apple is holding what they're calling a rock 'n roll press event today 9/9/09 at 10 AM Pacific (1PM Eastern). Hypebot will have an update after the major announcements are made, but several top writers are live blogging the event. In the meantime, here's what the rumor mill thinks will be announced today along with Hypebot's score of of their likelihood.
- Lower prices on many iPods. This one's not a rumor anymore Engadget confirmed major price cuts on the iPod Touch, Nano and classic models yesterday. (100%)
- An upgraded iTunes with a social component. This one's overdue. (95%)
Upgraded players (100%)
- Add a camera to the iPod Touch and maybe other players too. (85%)
- The "Cocktail" digital album format (50%) We wish but without the tablet…
- An Apple tablet that's more than an IPhone and less than a computer. (25%)
- The Beatles on iTunes. (10%)
- Apple TV upgrade. (90%)
- Streaming video. (75%)

I think that The Beatles are coming to iTunes, just not today. It’s not to anyone’s advantage to release the band’s physical and digital product on the same day, or even in the same quarter as it would cannibalize physical sales.
If they wait until later in the year for the digital release they can take advantage of the Christmas market with things like last minute iTunes gift cards, and use the iTunes release as a second launch of the physical product to take advantage of the Holiday.
Let everyone buy the CDs for now, see what the sell-through is, then release on iTunes. That’s what I’m betting.
Someone once told there could be some news regarding ringtones outside US.

Beatles coming on iTunes – yawn yawn ywan – who cares?
The heck with putting the Beatles on iTunes!! Have they gotten to Glenn Miller yet? 🙂
(Listening to the Beatles in 2009… that’s an even bigger stretch of time than listening to Glenn Miller when I was in college. I am loving my remastered reissue of REVOLVER though!)
