Introduce Yourself To The Hypebot Community

It's becoming a tradition for Hypebot  to host a little networking party on fthe day before a long holiday weekend in the US. After all it is a day when many of us are tied to our desks, but have no desire to do any real work.  So as a constructive solution to the work day blahs…

Networking

In the comments section below, tell us a little about yourself, what you're working on and what excites you (PG-13 only).  Include links that you think might be of interest to others and I suggest adding your name and email or some way that other Hypebot readers interested in collaborating can find you. Shameless plugs are allowed.

Don't be shy. Tell us about yourself…

  1. Hi there. This is Ayhan Sahin from Turkey. I have worked in Sony Music for nearly 5 years as a Marketing Manager and now i’m working as a product manager in a Turkish social music website.
It’s great to be a part of hypebot community, especially at these evolving times in music biz.
You can reach to me from ayhan.sahin@mynet.com
    regards

  2. Hi,
My name is Endy I’m a graduate student at NYU in the music business program. I DJ & produce music under the name Stitch with my partner Eye-v. You can hear some of our work on our twitter page at (http://tiny.cc/RCYC7 ) or via our Facebook group http://tiny.cc/kh5nA . We mainly produce electronic dance music like house, drum n bass, and dubstep. We have been writing our own music for about a year now and have had some of our work featured in various remix competitions. I would like to get together all of the hypebot.com music producers so we can have a forum to discuss the issues that mainly effect the production side of the industry or even set up collaboration possibilities.
Outside of my own music production I am very interested in music publishing and music licensing. I started my own publishing company earlier this year, not only to protect my publishing rights but also to get more exposure to that side of the industry.
Anyway check out our twitter page or facebook and tell me what you think.
    Endy

  3. Hello… Daniel here from The Burst Collective. We’re neck deep in the final stages of the launch of our rebranded BurstLabs.com production music catalog after partnering with Sony/ATV and MTV last year. It’s now called Mixtape Music Library and you can check it out at the brand new ExtremeMusic.com (as of yesterday, I believe).
Also have a recording studio called Burst HQ in Milwaukee, WI, where come nice work is being done – Maritime, Willy Porter, Cory Chisel, Eric Benet.
My record production work is on a bit of a break as I focus on the stuff that actually makes bank. 🙂
You can check out our various websites, of course… or become a fan of The Burst Collective on fb :

Keep up the great work, Hypebot!

  4. Howdy…
I’m a 21 year old saxophonist going to school in MD for political science (searching for a day job!). What interests me…I am interested in figuring out where in the world the music industry is headed. I also wonder if more content creators will mean less money available in music (and if this lack of money will weed out the “bad” acts).
I want to create music that is unlike anything else out there (yea, I know…original, right?). I just don’t want to make ringtone music that people find catchy for a month and forget about. I want music that stays in your mind..and your soul…that you have no trouble returning to years down the road. There’s not much of that made today, which probably explains why most music on my zune is pre 1990.
Anywho…shameless plug. I’ve released two albums, both of which are available on iTunes and amazon.com. More info is available at my site http://www.je-music.com
Thanks to hypebot…reading the site is part of the morning routine.

  5. Hi, my name is Greg Nisbet and I run an internet music startup called Mediazoic, based in Toronto, Canada. Mediazoic’s first product in development is a piece of software that allows anyone with a love of music, a very basic knowledge of computers and an Internet connection to act as his/her own deejay, broadcasting music live all over the Internet at the click of a button. No file sharing or uploading needed, and the business model ensures that everyone gets a fair piece of the action.
We’re still working on getting the beta version out to the public, but in the meantime you can follow us on Twitter at:
    http://twitter.com/Mediazoic
Thanks for the opportunity for shameless self promotion, hypebot!

  8. Hey,
My name is Eileen Tilson, I am the Director of New Media Marketing and PR for Tipping Point Entertainment Group. I am most excited about an artist we just signed to management, PT Walkley. He is a musical prodigy, that has scored three films, opened for Coldplay, and has been recognized by every major music magazine…And yet is virtually unknown on the web. This is where I step in; I love this part of my job, where I really get to make an artist known to the world, it confirms to me why I love the music business.
Nice to meet all of you!! My new Hypebot friends!

  9. Hola Hypebot readers.
I own a company based in Austin, TX called Bandzam. We are a music company focused on finding new revenue streams for bands. We are also a technology company and are developing some cool things that bands can use to help promote and market themselves. If you are in a band, manage a band or have a record label we would love to talk to you.
    Best,
    Brian Traudt

  10. I’ll start out by saying I love Hybebot and recommend this blog to every musician I work with.
I’m Deborah (The Music Maven) and I own Rising Star Artists a PR/Promo/Marketing company for musicians. My premise is that most PR is out of the reach of most bands/artists, so I came up with a really inexpensive way to build street cred through articles, radio interviews, and the like. Did I mention the really inexpensive part? 🙂
Good luck to all in the music biz and please approach me with cross-promo — bands, businesses…
The music world is sometimes a harsh environment and working together is the best way to get noticed.
    Wish all big success,

  11. Hello Hypebot readers!
My name is César, I work with FUGA (http://fuga.me), a fantastic digital distribution tool for record labels.
    (Shameless plug ahead).
FUGA is a web application that is used by record labels, distributors and aggregators worldwide to manage their digital catalog from a central location. Using the platform’s simple user interface, content owners can deliver to many online stores with one-click, easily maintain their catalogue’s metadata, make new compilations from already uploaded items, create digital release schedules and access up to the minute data on where their releases have been delivered. FUGA is connected to more than three hundred online stores and other Digital Service Providers around the globe.
FUGA does not act as a distributor or reseller between the labels and the online stores. These deals are negotiated directly between our customers and the stores.

I’m Dalit (Dah-leet, just in case!) based out of the San Diego/Los Angeles area. I recently graduated college but had spent the last 4 years interning at labels, management firms, and even Warner Chappell. Just this summer I decided to start my own management company called MUSIC H3AD management, and begun managing a local San Diego band called The Getdown.
Just this week I was asked to sign on as an artist manager for LA company, Renaissance Artist Management. I’m still pretty new to the industry, but I guess people have enough faith in me. I’m always looking for a) advice! b) new bands and c) new friends in the industry.

  14. Hello All! I’m absolutely addicted to Hypebot.
I’ve been working with an amazing singer/songwriter named Chip Robinson who just recently found a home, Red River Records for his upcoming release Mylow.
Mylow is a 12-song road map inspired by Robinson’s traveling and living between North Carolina and New York. The music reflects a natural evolution of a Southern writing style that he has developed throughout the years.
Anticipated release date and tour: Winter 2010
    Limited Edition Mylow (200 — numbered & signed): http://chiprobinson.blogspot.com/2009/03/pre-order-limited-edition-copy-of-mylow.html

I recently graduated with a Master of Arts Management Degree from Columbia College Chicago with a concentration in music business. 17. Hello fellow Hypebotters.
My name is Ryan Taylor, and I’m a music-obsessed crazy person. I’ve played guitar in bands for years, mostly in the punk/rock genres (Think somewhere between RFTC, QOTSA, McLusky, etc). I spent 5 years recording music for a living mostly in the San Diego area with a small stint in DC. I did some business side projects during recording and ended up getting my MBA with a focus in entrepreneurship and marketing strategy at UCSD Rady.
I did an internship in Label Relations and Music Programming at iTunes, and a small stint in business development at Sony Style. Now I’m working as a Product Marketing Manager at DivX in San Diego, and we’re working really hard to do some big things in the near future. Since starting at DivX about 9 months ago, I’ve been constantly thinking about how to integrate great music and interesting partnerships into our marketing activities and events.
I was the grateful recipient of a free pass to Bandwidth courtesy of Hypebot last year, and I’ll be forever grateful to Bruce and the team. Though I didn’t get to make it this year, I had a great time and met tons of interesting people last year.
Keep up the great work Hypebot, you keep me connected to my passion and I read you everyday.

  25. Greetings All! Having a fun time learning about other Hypebot readers!
I’m Alandis and frequently read Hypebot. I just graduated from New York University’s Graduate Music Business program and have started an artist services company.
Go Forth Strategic aims to provide support services to independent artists similar to those that a label would provide for their artists. Right now we’re focusing on digital strategies and fan relationship management, but will soon be expanding to services such as A&R administration and sponsorships. We want the artist to focus on creativity and leave everything else to us!
I’m excited about the direction the music industry is heading in and am down for collaborations. I want to hear about everybody else! Let’s go!

  26. My name is Jim and I spent 20 years working for major labels, first in Artist Development, then I got into “new media” in around 1993. I had a front row street for all the mad shit that happened in digital music – we made a lot of mistakes, but there are two sides to every story. History favors the victors, so I guess I’m not surprised that there are some misperceptions about things that happened and what people were thinking at the time. But I’m also surprised that after all this time, the labels still seem to be doing everything possible to alienate consumers and artists.
But their stupidity has made it a very interesting time to be an artist, or a music fan. After the fire, the forest grows anew.
I currently consult for a wide variety of artists and labels, I’m a writer and a photographer. My music taste is too varied to detail here but my hard drive has about 30,000 tracks on it, in AIFF and Apple Lossless.
    My email is trickness@mac.com

  27. Hi, I am Charles Law, currently finishing my A levels in England.
I need some advise on whether a Joint honors degree in marketing, music and media management could get me a decent job in the industry after uni? Any advise would be fantastic, I simply don’t want to be jobless after putting everything into uni!
Thanks, hit me on chazzlet@hotmail.co.uk if you can help! I might be able to do a favour or two in the future if a suitable one comes up!
    Charles.

  28. My name is brendan b brown….I am the singer songwriter, guitarist, producer, engineer cat fish farmer and all around everything person for my band wheatus, based in the NYC area. I formed the band in 1997…we signed to Columbia Records in early 2000 and had an international hit, Teenage Dirtbag, which went on to drive our 1st record sales over the 3 million mark….Damn…I still cannot believe that is true.
I spend every dime I made on the following:
(in order of highest $ spent to lowest)
    Lawyers
    Bad Managers
    Band salaries
    Gear
    Studio
    Touring
    Website
I continue reinvesting in the band and our studio. Things get hard sometimes but we get good news here and there. We are able to work about 7 or 8 months of the year. The other time I spend writing and waiting for EMI/BMI checks. Sometimes we can tour, and sometimes not. We will remain independent for the rest of our lives.
I started my own label for wheatus releases back in 2005 and we have 4 records out since being released from our SONY deal that same year.
Having started as an engineer and being a tech leaning person I believe that technology can be used to replace the hopeless old school mechanisms.
To that end wheatus recently became the 1st band to release an album for the Playstation 3 in the only full res downloadable format, DSD_DISC. It’s available for free or donation only at wheatus.com.
Our wheatus.com download revenue in the 1st month (June 2009) exceeded any single quarter on iTunes (Tunecore) by A TON..so we are considering removing our catalog from iTunes all together.
I have been fortunate to cultivate direct artist to artist relationships via our site and myspace/twitter that have resulted in some decent placements and licensing, most notably, in aprilshowersmovie.com.
I am interested in talking to anyone who knows how to do something. You can reach me at bbb@wheatus.com.
I am looking forward to a life as a middle class artist and I am confident that once the old school fat and rotting flesh are trimmed from this floundering business, that my middle class aspirations will find a sustainable home in my own, customized, middle class music model.
I collect vinyl, cats that speak English, and vintage BMX Bikes.
    Much Love,

  32. Good morning..Mitchell Fox here. I’ve been working with musicians for a little over 30 years and, after a few years looking for something else to do, have returned to the fold. Stupid me..do what you love..it’s what love. Dan Herrington and I have opened up HerringtonFox Management here in Nashvegas, TN. We just signed on to work with our first two artists, Morgan Tobias and Nora Jane Struthers. We’re always looking for things we like…nothing specific…just to our liking. In the process of meeting and greeting with the tastemakers of Nashville and beyond…nothing has changed except more empty offices/buildings on Music Row. Fewer people doing more things to help promote music. They need us and we’re here to help. If you want to send us stuff… mitchell.fox@comcast.net
    Good luck everyone….

  33. Hi Everyone, My name is Paul Metsa. I am a musician/songwriter, and have been releasing records on my own label since 1984. I am based in Minneapolis. I am currently working with CDbaby, and have been happy with them, but I am looking for something that has a few more options. Any ideas? I appreciate it. Thank you. Paul Metsa, Mpls.MN

  34. Hey Hypebot community!
My name is Eric Williams and I am a producer/engineer/songwriter that is one half of the production team Monte Carlo Method (MCM). We are based in Chicago and specialize in House Music and other electronic styles. Hypebot has been a wellspring of useful information and is one of the very first things I read in the morning. We are most well known for our remix work and are currently promoting a Michael Jackson remix of one of his classic tunes “Butterflies”
available for free download. Our other project is a 5 song EP titled “Sky High Moods”, which essentially has a “morning music” vibe for lack of a better description. Both are available at http://montecarlomethod.loudfeed.com also you can email me, ericmarionwilliams@gmail.com Wishing all of you success in your current and future endeavors! Thanks!

  35. Hi Everyone!
I delighted to get this opportunity. I started Mamaloose Music in 2007 for the purposes of ruthlessly exploiting my own creative work, after writing and singing since 1995. My passion is poetry and music but since I have two decades of business background I was curious to see how it applied to the music business. Well after I diagrammed the two dozen or so entities involved in the money chain from collaboration, A&R, management, production, distribution, marketing and performance it was apparent that there were too many feeding from one creative spark. There is no question that some of the layers amplified the creation, but the internet has virtually destroyed the gatekeeper function required to support the old music industry. There may be more noise in the current system but now the audience gets to create their own filters (see Jango Radio for example). So now I am continuing to learn the new ins and outs while trying to stay focused on the creative side. I’ve developed some new strategies for navigating and will probably share them in some published fashion when I get my s— together. But learning and doing this music business stuff is what keeps me cranked, and Hypebot and it’s intelligent audience is a highly valued resource in the mix.

  36. Hi,
I’m preparing a new addition to our Developer Lab API tool that will allow mobile product redemptions via Web services. Enjoying a sunny day in Atlanta GA and trying to decide where to BBQ tomorrow. :p

  37. My name is Brook Batteau. I’m a superb singer working with my all original tribal dream pop trio Honky Thumbelina and The Skinnyman(HTS). I’m originally from Cambridge MA. In the early days I did original rock and roll with some lazy pals. A couple years ago I sang lead for an R and B band, singing 4 sets a night. It proved to me what I already knew but had no proof of-that I really am a great singer with an original style. HTS are working on new songs for fans and a new CD. It’s going well. I love the Hypebot feeds. Go to ilovehts.com for more info and tunes.

  38. Big Howdy Hypebot from Marlin, TX and Plague of Smiles. I am an artist and musician. I didn’t bounce back as expected after brain surgery and so lost a job doing electrical work for the Railroad industry. Took my unemployment checks and began recording music, posting it online as downloads and Plague came to life.

  42. Connecting Fan Merchandise with Digital Music
Tunipop bridges the gap between digital music and physical music-related merchandise like shirts, posters and hats so users have timely and relevant access to authorized merchandise of their favorite artists whenever they listen to, buy or interact with music online.
Music merchandise is an international multi-billion dollar market, and one that is mostly underserved due to the fragmentation of suppliers, artists and retailers. Tunipop solves this problem through technology and aggregation of data while opening up the market for artists and authorized vendors seeking higher sales volume through a single distribution network.
Tunipop has authorized merchandise from thousands of artists. This ever expanding catalog allows digital music sites and the millions of users they serve access to merchandise every time they listen, buy or interact with music online. Music site owners benefit by combining digital content from music artists, songs, albums or videos with fan merchandise, adding new value for their user base, all without having to maintain relationships with hundreds of merchandise suppliers.
Tunipop’s technology is easy and intuitive, making merchandise purchasing rewarding for everyone.
We are currently in beta and look forward to major announcements later this fall. In the mean time, Please check us out http://www.tunipop.com or send email to info@tunipop.com for more information.
    Thanks!
