Hypebot Favicon

Summer is officially over and a chill is in the air. But music industry and music tech news is certainly heating up.  One overheated sector is the music convention business with more gatherings scheduled over the coming weeks than ever before.  I'll try to share details a few that I believe are rising above the rest.

I'm particularly happy to share a discount to all Hypebot readers to the Oct 6th Chicago New Music Seminar and proud that Hypebot's own Kyle Bylin will be keynoting Next Big Nashville.

  • EMI

EMI, owned by buyout firm Terra Firma, has narrowly averted a
    restructuring
after an improvement in performance eased the
pressure for lenders to take action. (Financial News) Terra Firma's Guy Hands also talked candidly about how close the original deal came to never happening at all. (NY Times) It's easy to criticize the majors and EMI has far to go, but this may be a success story in the making…

  • MySpace, Hulu working on new video service. (CNet) A move to counter the comoing Vevo juggernaut.
  • Vodafone  has completed a deal with WMG giving it access to all four major label groups for EU DRM free downloads.  (Reuters)Generic_headphone_computer
  • FCC Chairman wants network neutrality, wired and wireless – FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski waded directly into the network neutrality fight today, launching a new proceeding designed to turn the FCC's existing "principles" into "rules"—and to add two more. The rules would apply equally to wired and wireless connections. (ars) Pay attention to this debate if you care about video on the net.
  • Pirate Bay buyer faces possible bankruptcy. (The Local)
  • RouteNote Distribution Partners With Grooveshark –  RouteNote has partnered with music streaming service Grooveshark. Grooveshark provides a user interface which allows listeners to stream the music online. RouteNote artists will have the option to get their music added to the Grooveshark database and Grooveshark artists will see the exclusive distribution partnership between Grooveshark and RouteNote via their artist platform. Congrats !
