PRS’ Will Page Weighs In On Too Much Debate

(UPDATE 2) In response to my recent essays on music choice, Will Page, Chief Economist at UK performing rights society PRS for Music, sent over this video from a few years back, where he delves into the deeper economic explanation of the less is more argument.

  2. Great. So according to PRS Robbie Williams gets all the money again. This is exactly the same assumption they use to distrubute radio play royalties.
    One thing I think they may have missed is that you really need to strip out all the bands whose tracks are available digitally that will never sell significant amounts but who are clogging up the tail in terms of calculating revenues.
    By this I mean unsigned/small/hobbie bands who are known only to their friends & family but who have paid to get on iTunes etc. There are thousands & thousands of these tracks available. I know, I’m one of them.
