Rob Cheng has written a post on the The Pit Blog where he explores the five reasons why he hates his iPod:

  1. Why Apple has a strange cable just for iPods?
  2. Why are there cheap headphones with my iPod?
  3. Why doesn't Apple like songs with higher bit rates?
  4. Why can't I just drag and drop songs onto my iPod?
  5. Why did Diamond Rio get sued out of business?
Why do you love/hate your iPod?

  1. APPLE’S CONSTANT BARRIERS TO HORIZONTAL INTEGRATION. There’s more than five examples that come under that.
I think their approach will bite them in the ass soon.
However, I still use Apple products.

  2. Wow. What a horrible, incoherent rant.
    1. To reduce size. Also, it supports things mere USB can’t (such as audio and video output).
    2. I honestly agree with this one.
    3. He couldn’t copy a song because the bitrate was too high? What I think he was referring to was sample rate, which is something completely different. And you can re-encode files in iTunes on both Mac and Windows.
    4. I agree iTunes needs to trim weight, but there are alternatives, like Foola. The fact that he wants to drag and drop onto his iPod reveals something about the way he’s used to working with music on his computer: he’s the type to keep his collection meticulously organized in folders in his own way. iTunes eliminates the need to do this. Why bother with an iPod if you wanna keep doing it the caveman way?
    5. Diamond was not sued. The RIAA merely filed for a temporary restraining order on the sale of the Rio, which was not upheld in court. Diamond merged with another company (S3), then went out of business. What this has to do with the iPod is anyone’s guess.
I know it’s fashionable to hate the iPod and all things Apple simply because they’re doing well, but if Hypebot wants to play Devil’s advocate, can we at least get a decently written article?

  3. Is that it??
    1. Who cares
    2. Buy some real headphones
    3. Works fine for me (24 bit 44.1kHz)
    4. You can!
    5. Who?
…list some of the real issues with iPods and iPhones (way too many to list here), then you’ll have something to complain about… and yes, I now have two iPods, two iPhones, and I hate them all. Can’t wait for the new LG Android Phones.

  4. Did you know they made the iTouch ‘one way’ only? In other words, if your computer crashes, and you have all this great music on your iTouch, you can’t transfer it back from iTouch to computer without a third party program.
