Voyno & Hoover’s Summer Reading Lists

NewRockstarBookCover

Voyno and Hoover are authors of the fantastic blog The New Rockstar Philosophy and book by the same name, one you should also consider adding to your summer reading list.

Here at Hypebot, we are rolling
out our summer reading lists, written by some of the
leading thinkers in the industry. If you happen to be in that crowd, email me
five of your picks
and reasons why the music industry should be
reading them.

Here's Voyno:

You Are Not A Gadget by Jaron Lanier

A book that challenges your thinking about many digital tenants. It's a little high brow, but worth your time.

The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

A classic already, and a great way to get you thinking about how you can free up more time to make music.

Chronicles: Volume One by Bob Dylan

Read this with a pen. Circle, underline, and re-read the brilliant truth bombs from the best songwriter of all time.

The Inner Game of Tennis by W. Timothy Gallwey

A pick for songwriters, and performers. I'm not finished yet but already it's helping to "get out of the way" of the creative process. . . also my overhand serve has never been better.

Here's Hoover:

The Art of Happiness by Dalai Lama

We all need to assess our happiness levels and more importantly find out what makes us truly happy.

Rework by Jason Fried, and David Heinemeier Hansson

I haven't started this one yet, but keep hearing great things it.

Walden by Henry David Thoreau

Want to know his perspective on the virtues of simplicity.

Sweet Soul Music by Peter Guralnick

Book on 60's soul music. I'm big into that and love learning about the artists involved.
