Songza Launches Shared Radio

Capture12345 Songza provides a free and simple way for people to create their own station.

The site gives users the ability to collaborate with friends, family, co-workers or even strangers to create a shared station—for any occasion. As oppsed to having them rely solely on influential users and algorithms.

“Much of the joy we get from music comes from how it connects us to the people around us,” said Elias Roman, CEO of Songza. In effect, he says, they want to make it easy for people to connect using shared, collaborative radio stations.

The reason: they allow for "a far more social and relevant experience."

While Pandora can become repetitive if not maintained, it is certainly interesting to see a company position themselves in opposition and stand behind the human element. To be sure, Roman does make an intriguing arguement.

At the same time, however, I don’t think I'll see my friends or family adding songs to my shared radio stations anytime soon. Nor would I want them to. Though I can see this as being an easy way to settle music conflicts between co-workers.

At present, they have an 8 million song library.
