image from 4.bp.blogspot.comWith Google now censoring terms like “BitTorrent” and “RapidShare” from their Autocomplete service, it’s important to put this move into context. What terms doesn’t Google filter? Big Content has pressured Google into taking a stance against piracy, but there are many things that the company is still mute about.

And in reality, the things that Google doesn’t filter are far, far worse than piracy.

"BitTorrent" is taboo, but child kidnapping? Not so much. Suddenly, making it harder for kids to find torrents seems like a sad victory for the RIAA. See below:

  1. I don’t know where you see this no suggestions thing, cause IF I type utorrent, or bittorrent or how to download, or download full albums for free.
    THEY ALL STILL WORK!

  2. why are you wasting your time with this nonsense?
the term bittorrent and every copyrighted term like pirate bay have but one end and one meaning, the other terms are generic and could be used to track real news or events. The Chinese government has eliminated all piracy in one day by understanding the reality of bittorrents, surely this column can as well.

  3. Censorship is opposed to free speech, and a huge number of artists support free speech and are against censorship. So it’s definitely not the artists who would like to build an architecture for censorship into the WWW.
Kyle, why have you seemingly suddenly become an advocate for censorship?

  4. I think my phrasing is off. I'm not for net censorship. My intent was to illustrate a different point. But, I see now how I presented it wrongly.
