Grammys Get Social with Rdio Powered Music App

Dwe Rdio has partnered with the Grammy Awards for their MusicMapper app.

The app lets users tag locations on a map with their favorite songs and memories.

Non-Rdio users will able to stream thirty-second samples of songs, while paid subscribers will be able to hear full songs.

The Grammy's goal is to create a narrative about how music transports us back to special times and places in our lives. And by displaying these tagged songs, other users can glean insight into other people's song stories.

Of course, in looking at the app, the stories that people shared aren't particularly insightful or meaningful, but the intent is there.

Either way, this partnership should give Rdio a good press traffic bump.

  1. There’s a project called meltinpop, which let friends create social music playlists based on meanings – Songs related to food, songs for the gym, songs about breaking up. The meaning can be subjective (I heard this just after she broke up with me) or an interpretation of the song itself. it’s on http://www.meltinpop.com
