What It’s Like To See Girl Talk Perform Live

Writer Zachary Lazar captures the essence of what it's like to see Gillis perform live. Reading through his piece makes you want to attend. Seeing Girl Talk is truly an experience. Lazer believes Gillis may provide a blueprint as to where live performances are going. He also delves gently into the question of what it means to be an artist in the age of remix culture. This generation of kids views musical creation differently than their peers.

"Also onstage: Jay-Z, Black Sabbath, Rick Springfield, Kesha, Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, the Ramones and Tupac and Biggie Smalls (both back from the dead) and hundreds more. In the audience are a few thousand fans jammed together beneath a blinding light show, waving their arms as rolls of toilet paper and explosions of confetti fall around them. You sense they’re feeling the same freedom, daring and camaraderie that they might at a house party when someone’s parents are away.   1. From what I’ve been told, watching Girl Talk live is like watching a drugged up high schooler press play on his iTunes and have a bad trip. I really hope what I’ve heard isn’t true. Judging by that video at NYT though, it doesn’t sound too far off…
