Are Free-Trials On Subscription Services Too Short?

image from hippestphone.com I've been doing lots of thinking about cloud-based music services lately. One of the things that I'm undecided on is whether or not their free-trials are long enough. Right now, the longest trial periods offered come from MOG and Rhapsody – fourteen days. For a core music fan, this may be enough time. Is it enough for casual fans? Do they need more time?

My instincts tell me that they do. What's your take? Drop a comment below.

  1. Speaking as someone who uses Spotify regularly and who has played with MOG, Rhapsody and others, the real value and fun is after you’ve build a few extensive playlists in these services, as well as, when their recommendation engines really get to know you.
That takes time and unless a user spends a lot of time upfront, 14 days is not nearly enough time to see the potential of streaming music.

  2. Netflix is the one to emulate. They charge less than the music services for their streaming only service, and they offer a 30 day free trial.
