Click To Pay Sync Licensing Platform For Music

6797 Need indie music for your film or video game, and fast? Meet Splother. The service allows full access to music via "click to pay" sync licensing and product marketing. Since it's no longer cost-effective to enter into elaborate negotiations for every type of sync, the company is aiming to speed up the process and provide a simple, iTunes-like solution for the long-tail of sync licensing.

Splother carefully selects artists that own their own publishing rights, or are represented by a global record label, and provides brands with a platform that enables them to get fast approval for the use of their music in a cost efficient manner. Each artist uploads and maintains a profile on Splother that contains music, imagines, and lyrics. In turn, they open themselves up to a new revenue stream and the possibility of having their music included films, commercials, games, etc. The company is officially launching their site on April 15th.

  1. A good idea in theory for music supervisors (quick & easy licensing), but pre-clearing music at a set price, which I’m assuming is what’s going on here, doesn’t give the artist an opportunity to earn as much as they could (or, on the flip side, could price them out of a good opportunity).
Also, what is the cut that Splother takes?
And ALSO, who chose the name Splother??? Horrible.
