Lady Gaga Hits 10M Twitter Followers plus 10 Must See Twitter Stats

image from upload.wikimedia.org Saturday night, Lady Gaga became the first celebrity or brand to reach 10 million Twitter followers, according to Famecount.  "10MillionMonsters! I'm speechless, we did it! Its an illness how I love you. Leaving London smiling,” she tweeted. Whatever you think of Lady Gaga, who also has 34M Facebook fans and 1.45B views on YouTube, these are impressive numbers.  But what does 10M mean in the scope of Twitterdom?   1. The interesting thing to consider is that according to the stats linked, a full 13% of Twitter is following Lady Gaga. Keep that in mind when considering how much you’re going to use Twitter and whether you have any potential audience there.
    Of course, the other thing people ignore is that user stats, especially at Twitter, are mostly useless, since the vast majority of sign ups have been from curiosity seekers, not active users. I’d wager that more than half of Twitter accounts are dead or just dummies (I have more than 3 accounts myself).
    It’s a good service, but I will warn indie bands: if you’re not able to be funny on the Internet, and have nothing to contribute besides band updates, don’t bother signing up. Self promo is the number one reason my friends and myself unfollow people.
    By the way, it is incredibly frustrating to post from an iPhone at this site.
