Apple Hits 15 Billion App Downloads

image from www.google.com Apple announced today that more than 15 billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store by the more than 200 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users worldwide. The App Store now offers more than 425,000 apps including more than 100,000 native iPad apps.

  1. So $2.5 Billion USD has reportedly been paid out to app developers from that figure of 15 Billion app downloads. Not really a viable business proposition being an app developer…$0.1666 per app downloaded is quite frankly pretty piss poor.
    Obviously, as usual Apple is very loose with the figures – what is the split of those 15 Billion app downloads between paid and free? Even if it was 50/50 the figure paid to app developers is appalling and a lot worse than the $0.70 USD labels are paid per download from the iTunes store.
    So realistically most app developers are getting a payout that is on a par if not worse than the $0.65 USD per hour the poor Chinese slaves in its conveniently contracted out 18 century style workhouses…
