Bandcamp Adds Facebook Pages plus Our Campaign For Bandcamp Transparency

image from www.google.comLaunched with so little fanfare that no one would have known about it unless the guys from Music Biz Podcast had stumbled upon it, Bandcamp has added Facebook Page integration. "The Bandcamp Facebook app puts all the functionality and content of your Bandcamp site into a tab within Facebook," says a note on the site.

"This page will walk you through its installation, cover some common questions, and help you troubleshoot any problems you may run into along the way."  The new feature, which pulls content automatically is easy to use – setup took Brian Thompson of ThornyBleeder just 90 seconds, "It's also really customizable and I love that."

"They kept this quiet ! Saw the tip on @hypebot logged into my @bandcamp and there it was!" @MakeItInMusic tweeted this morning.

Step by step instructions on using Bandcamp's almost undiscovered new feature can be found here.

Join The Campaign For Bandcamp Transparency

II love Badcamp as do thousands of artists. If you are one of them, I urge you to join me in the unofficial tongue-planted-firmly-in-cheek campaign launched by Michael Brandvold and Brian Thompson to shame Bandcamp into getting better at spreading the word about their own features. Email them at feedback@bandcamp.com.  (BTW, it took me 5 minutes of searching the site to find contact info.)

Or if Bandcamp would just email or even just direct tweet me a link – not even an announcement, press release or blog post -  I'll spread the word for them.

  1. Thanks for posting this. This is why I read Hypebot. Bandcamp is one of the best looking, user friendly and functional tools that an artist has at their disposal. Can’t wait to try out the new fb integration.

  2. Bruce – it was actually @Buzzsonic who picked it up and his tweet alerted me!
It’s true – Bandcamp really need to do some PR – although I guess their community finds out…..

  3. Maybe this is all part of a cleverly planned marketing plan and we just don’t know we are part of it.
@Buzzsonic didn’t mean to slight you, I didn’t see your post about the app, I came across the menditon on Bandcamp as I was working on a client store.
I was scratching my head thinking I had completely missed this announcement.

  4. Certainly not feeling slighted Michael, I only noticed it because of the mention here, which is what got me searching around my own Bandcamp account 🙂

  5. When I saw it on Bandcamp I jumped to Hypebot to see if I missed the story… nothing about it. I was thinking I don’t remember this app being available, but didn’t know if I just spaced on it. I think I installed it on six client pages in about one hour on Tuesday after I discovered it. Just so easy to setup.

  6. This has been in the works for a while. I actually shared the email they sent me prior to their launch. And yesterday I heard it on Michael and Brian’s podcast! Never miss an episode. Great show.

  7. It’s a shame that such a nice and fair ( to artists ) platform like Bandcamp is so little known to the public, while a very unfair one like Spotify monopolizes all the hype on the internet.

  8. I agree with this strategy. They have to be able to troubleshoot any new integration and scalability is very important otherwise the whole site could come crashing down.
