Twitter Gets A Major Makeover [First Look & Video]

image from www.google.comTwitter has unleashed some major changes yesterday that give the site and its apps a cleaner look and some new Facebook-like features. Most of the changes are positive, though I did notice some design and readability issues on some Twitter homepages using both approved and custom skins. (Be sure to check to see how your's looks.) Here's a first look at some of the new features and a video tour:

  • Connect is where you "get in on the conversation". See who has followed or mentioned you, retweeted or favorited one of your Tweets.
  • Discover lets you tap into a customized stream of information. When you use Discover, you’ll see results reflecting your interests "based on your current location, what you follow and what’s happening in the world". As you use Discover more, Twitter says it gets better at serving up more relevant content.
  • Profile – This new section puts you and your interests front and center. Others can Tweet directly to you and view your lists, favorites, followers, photos and more. A Me tab is where you can stay current on direct messages.
  • Speak – The new tweet/send section.

Twitter says that many of these new features will be incorporated to its official Tweetdeck app soon. It will interesting to see how easily Hootsuite and others can keep up with the changes. Let us know what you think of the new Twitter and how it's effecting your social media efforts.

  1. We manage multiple accounts for our clients, so hardly use the single Twitter.com profiles anyway.. the changes dont effect us, although the new layout does seem to be a lot better than before. Not that we’ll be switching away too soon from the way we currently do things.. this change does seem like progress.
