Music industry pundits often declare that radio is dead. In fact, its just evolving, as it has for more than 120 years. The team at wireless hi-fi manufacturer Sonos understand that. In fact, they're powering part of  radio's latest incarnation. So they've created an infographic that illustrates radio's evolution from 1892 through social radio phenomenon Turntable.FM.

  1. Sirius Satellite Radio was known as CD Radio when it first appeared in 1999. That was also the year XM Satellite Radio appeared and it was originally known as American Mobile Satellite Corporation. XM actually beat Sirius to market by 6 months although Sirius/CD Radio was first to initiate a test broadcast.

  2. Great Chart …….Kinda hard to view though. Turntable is a fun concept,  but have you heard of RadioFlag.com? . It is the real deal . College stations from across the country are going nuts for it, and they are the trendsetters ! After reading this I am sure you will make this the next evolution, or should I say Revolution on your chart. This article written back in November 2011 describes in detail what you are mentioning now; the re-birthing/ evolution of Radio.. check it out  http://blog.radioflag.com/articles/rebirth-of-a-radio-star

  3. ^^Haha I use that! get turned onto college stations by the DJs themselves all the time, even when they’re outta frequency range. it is 2012..which explains why it’s not on that chart yet.

  4. It’s missing a big invention in the 20s. Edward Rogers Sr. invented the AC tube, so that the radios themselves could by plugged into the home’s hydro, rather than be powered by huge messy batteries. That was huge.
