Spotify Jumps Into Dating Game With Two New Musical Matchmaking Apps

image from compixels.comSpotify is taking social music to the romantic level with two new apps that match users with potential romantic partners based on their taste in music. The apps, Tastebuds and Fellody, each take a slightly different approach, but both help users connect with new friends and potential dates based on favorite artists, most-listened-to music, and their Spotify playlists.

The apps launched today are:

Fellody_SpotifyAppFellody – Drag and drop Spotify playlists into the app to find friends and potential love interests with the highest match rate. Instantly send a ‘flirt’ or browse your matches’ tastes to discover new music. (shown to right, click on image to enlarge)

Tastebuds – The app will match users find a potential partner based on the artists they've listened to most on Spotify and their collection of playlists. The app filters matches by gender, age and location, and message matches in real-time. To help arrange an offline meetup, users can add shows their tracking wit the Songkick Spotify concert app.

While finding new partners on Spotify, may not be for everyone, usurs have to install the apps to jump in the dating game.  And "taste in music is one of the most common topics of conversation when meeting someone, whether they are a date or just a new friend," argues Sten Garmark, Director of Platform at Spotify.

Both app creators claim that music-based matchmaking really works. "43% of first messages get a reply on Tastebuds.fm," according to Alex Parish, co-founder, "a much higher response rate than non-music based dating sites”.  Jokes Robin Simon, co-founder of app Fellody, "We are very happy to welcome all Spotify users on Fellody, where they might get more groupies with their taste in music than Robbie Williams during the 90’s.”
