The Growing List Of Cancelled UK Festivals

image from www.google.comA dozen UK music festivals have been scrapped this year, including three more casualties that pulled the plug this month. The latest additions include the Cloud 9 festival in Cheshire with headliners Benjamin Francis Leftwich, All The Young and Golden Down in Winchester, with Four Tet, Roots Manuva on the bill, which both went by the boards within 24 hours. The two fests join the Rough Beats festival in Yorkshire, which was canceled earlier this month.

Cloud 9's organizers said in a statement: "After some difficult conversations, it with a heavy heart and deep regret that, due to financial pressures, we announce to you the cancellation of Cloud 9 Festival 2012."

"We are so very sad to have to end a project that has been so dear to us for the past four years, we can't express how heartbreaking this decision has been to make. The festival environment this year has been incredibly difficult for many small, independent festivals and has proved to be too challenging for us to overcome," the announcement added.

According to CMU, Vince Power also reported this week that sales for his Hop Farm festival with headliner Bob Dylan were slow.

A report presented at Live UK: The Summit and UK Festival Awards & Conference in 2009 offered a convincing argument that the festival market had reached a point of saturation, with ticket prices for festivals far outstripping consumer price indexes and this summer may well give some credence to the projections in that report.

Other festivals that have been scrapped this year include heavy hitters like Sonicsphere UK and The Big Chill as well as GoGo Festival, LadyRock Festival, Pride House, Trowbridge Festival, Kelvedon Free Music Festival, Harvest at Jimmy's, & Titanic Lockdown. – via CelebrityAccess
