Backup Music From Your Android Phone With G Cloud Backup

G-cloud-iconGuest post by Eliot Van Buskirk of Evolver.fm.

We’re not going to spend much time on this one because it’s only barely about music. But if you have an Android and you wish you had something like Apple iCloud that could back up your phone in case of emergency or absent-mindedness, well, now you have it.

Gcloud-133x238G Cloud Backup is an intelligent, effortless and automatic way to protect and backup all your Android’s data to a secure cloud location,” writes Genie9 social media/marketing officer Amanda Estephan. “G Cloud can backup your call log, contacts, messages, pictures, videos, music and documents silently without rooting, special requirements, or any user intervention. You get 1GB to protect your device for free. Also you can upgrade to 10GB for only $0.99/month. That backs up about 2,000 songs.”

According to Genie9, people lose smartphones every three seconds in New York City alone. According to Google, that’s an exaggeration – but even that article indicates that Americans will lose $30 billion-worth of cellphones in 2012. It also says the average American loses one device per year, which means that plenty of you reading this right now will find yourselves separated from your phone before the year is through.

Have you been using your Android to leech music from your pals over sneakernet using this technique? If you’re one of these unlucky phone losers, you can kiss all of those carefully curated cuts goodbye… unless you’re backing up your data. G Cloud, which sort of pretends to be iCloud, appears to be a good option (and Google Play commenters seem to agree), although it only connects via WiFi.

As an aside, this appears to be a cottage industry of sorts: cloning Apple iOS features for Android. (In other words, it’s not just Samsung.)
