Goodbye Ping, We Hardly New You

image from allthingsd.comTwo years to the month after Apple launched Ping – it's never-got-off-the-ground attempt to merge music with social – the company is shutting it down.  Ping's lack of a connection with Facebook, even as the later soared, virtually guarunteed this day would come.

As of September 30, 2012, R.I.P. Ping.

“We tried Ping, and I think the customer voted and said ‘This isn’t something that I want to put a lot of energy into.’"

– Apple CEO Tim Cook to AllThingsDigital.

  1. Amazing that pandora’s stock went down when apple announced their intentions to make a work-alike. I don’t think either the listeners or the music providers want to give apple any more control over the music world than they already have. The death of ping really just confirms that in my mind.
