We Dare CMT & Radio To Make This A Hit: Gay-Themed Country Song Finds YouTube Success [VIDEO]

image from 2.bp.blogspot.comGiven it's reliance on love of Mom, apple pie and conservative values, it's hard to imagine country radio or CMT embracing a gay themed love song. But thanks to YouTube, a song and video by unsigned artist Steve Grand, is finding an audience, logging almost 450,000 views in the 6 days since it was posted. Grand made the $7000 video for "All American Boy" by maxing out his credit card.

The story comes from his own life, “I was a 13-year-old boy (at camp),” the 23-year-old singer-songwriter, told Pollstar from his hometown Chicago. “One of my counselors was warm and strong and he took an interest in me – not sexually, but as a friend, and it really moved me. I remember leaving with a horrible ache in my heart.”

  1. judging by my gay friends’ listening habits, country music has a much much wider gay audience than they would guess or admit.

  2. It’s no secret that Country music has a large conservative audience. But I have lots of gay friends, and yeah……Country music is way bigger with them, then a lot of conservatives want to admit.
