Top Exec Admits Facebook Isn’t Cool, But Swears Teens Aren’t Dumping Them

image from www.hypebot.comStarting in May, a variety of studies have shown that teens are cooling to Facebook.  "We did see a decrease in daily users specifically among younger teens," CFO David Ebersman confirmed during a recent earnings call.  Not so, says her boss, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg. His comment, she says, was "blown out of proportion". But she did admit that keeping fickle teens interested is a problem.

Facebook Is Not Cool

At 10 years on Facebook is "not the newest. And often, particularly in our space, newer things are shinier and cooler," Sandberg told AllThingsD. But, she says, "The vast majority of US teens are on Facebook" she said. "And the majority of US teens use Facebook almost every day."

"What Mark [Zuckerberg] has said and what we all believe is that we’re not trying to be the coolest. And we’re not trying to be the newest," says the COO. "We’re trying to be the most useful."
