London Rules Record Stores: From Rough Trade NYC To First 3D Record Printing Popup Shop

Rough-trade-nycThough you can't quite call it a comeback, indie record stores in the States are making news with events like Back To Black Friday. But the biggest news draws on England's love of vinyl with the opening of Rough Trade NYC adding to two London locations. The Guardian has an interactive digital presence in one of Rough Trade NYC's shipping containers. London will also host the first 3d record printing shop and the citiy's Independent Label Market manifests in LA later this month.

DETAILS:

Record Store Day's Back To Black Friday has come and gone. Hope people did well. Mobile Records in Mobile, Alabama got some coverage. Remember, big sales events can get coverage both before and after. Indie record stores could be doing much more with post-Back To Black Friday coverage.

Rough Trade Opens In New York

The opening of Rough Trade NYC in Williamsburg, Brooklyn seems to be the biggest vinyl-related news of the season. Four years of planning led to the launch which got quite a bit of coverage:

Rough Trade NYC Hosts #GuardianGreenRoom

The #GuardianGreenRoom is a "multi-purpose interactive digital lounge housed inside one of the shipping containers that makes up Rough Trade's new NYC store." Wonder what they mean by an "immersive and interactive in-store experience"?

Here's the outside of the shipping container and here's a pic of the inside. Looks like you get to interact with screens. Yay!

Update: Here's more on why The Guardian is doing this: they're getting set to expand U.S. cultural coverage which is a great thing. As is Rough Trade NYC. Don't let my dry humor throw you off that track!

World's First 3D Printing Record Store

So London will see the first popup 3d record printing store later this month featuring a new single by Bloc Party's Kele Okereke and Bobbie Gordon.

It's kind of a novelty, kind of the future. It's also a marketing campaign for Bacardi Beginnings where I guess they'll eventually give you the location.

Independent Label Market in Los Angeles

The Independent Label Market calls London home but it's happening in L.A. in Silverlake on December 8.
