This growth of 33% from 2012  is partially due to an increase in smartphone usage.

Revenue generated by music apps grew 77% on 2013, according to a report released Wednesday from App Annie and IHS. Some of the biggest revenue-generating music apps include Pandora, Smule's Magic Piano, Apple's GarageBand, Rdio and Ultimate Guitar Tabs.  Pandora's premium subscription service came in at #1 with 3.3 million subscribers who pay $3.99 per month to listen without ads.

Round Hill Music has opened up a new Nashville office and has hired Mark Brown as General Manager. Before joining Round Hill, Mark Brown held creative roles with Warner/Chappell, Universal Music Publishing Group, and Root 49 Music. Along with opening the new office, the company has also acquired the Big Tractor catalogue which includes country hits from artists such as Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, George Strait, and Hunter Hayes.

Wonderlous Music has signed Steve "Silk" Hurley to a worldwide publishing administration agreement. The agreement includes his whole catalog, including songs like “Jack Your Body” and “Keep On Walkin”. In addition, the deal includes master rights owned by Silktone and publishing rights administered by S&S Chicago.
