Prince Drops Universal, Forms Own NPG Music Publishing

princePrince has pulled his music publishing from Universal and is moving it in house to the newly created NPG Music Publishing.  Throughout his career Prince has preferred keeping control of his music and career. Now digital technology and the rise of independent fee based publishing services make it possible for a global artist like Prince to track usage and collect payments across multiple titles and territories.

"NPG Music Publishing was founded by Artists for Artists," according to the announcement. "The team will be led by some of the best talent in the industry."

NPG Music Publishing assisted with Prince's newest single on Epic Records, "FALLINLOVE2NITE," which was featured in the hit FOX television show New Girl earlier this year. The special episode featuring Prince aired directly after the Super Bowl.
