Country Music Dominates This Week’s Chart

GuitarCountry ruled the Nielson Billboard charts this week with Miranda Lambert’s "Platinum" grabbing the top spot selling 179,000 copies. Along with strong recent debuts from Eric Church and Brantley Gilbert, country is again proving itself as a major force in music sales.

While Coldplay’s Ghost Stories, which held the top spot for the previous two weeks, dropped to #5, the only other debut in the Top 10 was 50 Cent’s Animal Ambition, at #4 with 47,000 copies sold.

"One of the most interesting stories in this week’s chart is the reemergence of Led Zeppelin, with the reissued expanded versions of their first three releases entering the Top 10 at #7, #9 and #10 – the first time an artist has claimed three concurrent Top 10 slots since Whitney Houston the week after her death," commented James Donio, President of Music Biz. "We wouldn’t be surprised if these strong first-week numbers spark another round of rumors of the often-discussed Led Zeppelin reunion tour. We’re keeping an eye on Jack White and Chrissie Hynde to bring an extra dose of rock to next week’s list of notable debuts.”
