Google Tried To Buy Playlist Service 8tracks [REPORT]

image from res.cloudinary.comGoogle's hunt to buy a music service or two to jump start its own efforts appears to have been going on a lot longer than we knew. Long before the recent rumors of a $15 million bid to by activity based playlister Songza, Google made a failed bid to acquire popular playlist site 8tracks, according to a new report.

Goole was hoping for more of an "acquire-hire" with 8tracks when it approached the startup last fall, the inside source told Billboard. But in addition to price, 8tracks' founders decided to keep the small but they say profitable company independent.

No details of Google's offer were shared, but 8Tracks has attracted north of $1.2 million form investors since launching in 2011.
