As for #3 - This is where having a stage name comes into play. You can post all you want under your stage name without worrying about employers googling your real name. David Bowie & Elton John aren't their real names…

I used to feel like I had to cover up the fact that I had a day job. I thought in order to be "embraced", or taken seriously as an artist/songwriter, that not looking as though I had a day job would give me more "cred" I guess. However, that is completely not the case. I now embrace the fact that I have a day job, a family to take care of, and I am consistently moving forward in my music career (i.e. more film/tv placements). Being more of a songwriter than artist, I do enjoy doing as much research and networking as I can on my break from work, and then also devoting a few hours each day just to research and networking.

If your managers have the time to monitor your social media accounts, they're probably the ones who should be getting fired.
