IdeasTap Launches Accelerator: Commission-Free Crowdfunding For Creative People

IdeastapIdeasTap is an "arts charity" or nonprofit based in London that supports young creatives with funding, networking tools and information. To further their mission they launched a commission-free crowdfunding platform with "Cash TopUp Funds" for outstanding projects. However Accelerator is for UK residents only and that's unlikely to change given the UK focus of IdeasTap.

According to the Accelerator launch announcement, Peter De Haan founded IdeasTap in 2008:

"in response to the first of the arts funding cuts, to empower young creative people through opportunities, seed funding, arts jobs and career development."

This mix is evident on the IdeasTap site and in the combination of creative and business-oriented content in their digital magazine IdeasMag.

Accelerator fits into this agenda quite nicely by providing a free fundraising tool for creative work with educational support. In addition it involves IdeasTap funding through TopUp Funds which add £500 to selected projects. IdeasTap members choose the recipients so there's a community element there as well.

Accelerator will also be able to promote or support promoting projects to their network but this early stage offers a unique moment to reach that network. As members first check out the new addition to IdeasTap they'll also be checking out the first campaigns of which there are currently four in progress.

Generally speaking one should not count on publicity or interest driven by a crowdfunding platform. You should always assume the platform will not help at all in that regard and act accordingly. However that may work a bit differently for Accelerator long-term and most likely will in the short term.

Here's more on how Accelerator works.
