Music Crowdfunding: Indiegogo Fixes Post-Funding Gap, Musicraiser Opens London Office

Musicraiser-logoOne of the big issues in crowdfunding is the gap between the end of a successful campaign and the delivery of whatever was funded. Indiegogo is now addressing that gap by allowing not only "contributions" after the initial funding period but by enabling the connection with fans to continue. In more specific music crowdfunding news, Italy-based platform Musicraiser followed up on their expansion plans with the opening of their London office. In addition they're now offering special promotional support for select campaigns.

Indiegogo's Solution to the Post-Funding Gap

Indiegogo's solution to the post-funding gap seems like a good fit for their platform. Not only will it allow campaigners to continue receiving contributions from supporters after the campaign deadline is reached but Indiegogo says it will also support campaigners' ability to:

  • Maintain the exposure, SEO and links that they’ve already built during their campaign, without having to start elsewhere from scratch
  • Capitalize on the existing web traffic
  • Manage ongoing funding and communication efforts from a single location
  • Utilize data obtained through Indiegogo’s Campaigner Dashboard and Google Analytics integration

In writing about PledgeMusic I recently pointed out that they were the only platform to date that had fixed the gap between reaching goal and continuing on to delivery of one's album or other outcome. Crowdfunders could stitch things together on their own but this was a unique element of PledgeMusic.

The basic concept seems very workable for Indiegogo so it will be interesting to see how this works out for people crowdfunding music campaigns.

As you can see from the initial examples of Tens (sunglasses) and TrackR bravo (tracking device), it can function as more of a presale but you could continue to offer any of the rewards from your music campaign.

Musicraiser Opens London Office

Italy's Musicraiser raised company funding this summer to expand into the UK and this month they opened their new London office.

They're also adding free promotional services for select campaigns that they feel have special potential:

"The free promotional campaigns, available to selected artists, include investment in social networking and press release submission to all the main music industry press outlets. MusicRaiser will also offer tutoring throughout the whole campaign process, working to maximise the potential of each artist’s specific personality."
