  1. Holy Cow is this one not very good idea. Start with getting rid of stores. Guess why FYE the shops in Malls is the number 10 marketplace for music and what to know why, Because 57% of is still physical and while we’re at it the number 1 market place Amazon don’t build warehouse to hold digital music. Look we get it, Digital music is something to in however it’s not even the majority of sales. IMHO the industry has adopted a model that best markets how a story can be package and sold and setting up your own shop has been proven by EVERY SINGLE person and company to not be profitable.
Remember if you’re doing it yourself no one cares enough to help. As for the industry being dead. Recent data release from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Census Bureau show that money in music is possible; However you need to be physical and digital and you have to have distribution.

  2. Free music. People listen to music everyday, right? Why not have the advertisers pay the artists? Soundcloud, Spotify even traditional radio should start having short commercials or “this hour of music is presented and programed by…”.
As a musician, the Spotify plays don’t mean shit anyways. It would be way better for both a business looking to promote to a specific demographic and the artist to make money to combine efforts. It doesn’t even have to be while the music is streaming- it could be in search ads and other forms of media. The brand can look “cool” because they are associated with an act and the act can make some money. Cross promo- but tastefully done.
One big thing that needs to change is the AMOUNT of people it takes to make/break a record. It’s not 1984 anymore- we don’t need A&Rs and 4 other hanger-on-ers to make an album. Most people can record/mix/master an album in their bedroom.
