De La Soul Turns To Kickstarter To Fund New Album, Raises Over $600,000
De La Soul secured second place in the most-funded Kickstarter music projects of all time category when they raised $600,874 for their first album in over a decade, a staggering $490,847 over their goal.
The hip-hop masterminds are sitting in second place to none other than Amanda Palmer, who's truly innovative Kickstarter project to fund a new record, an art book, AND a tour raised over a million dollars.
Of the 11,000+ backers who pledged money to De La Soul's Kickstarter project, one $10,000 backer will get band member Dave's (Trugoy the Dove) platinum autographed record of their 1989 Album, 3 Feet and Rising and a $7500 backer will get to spend a day in the studio with De La Soul and record a skit on the new album that is expected to hit shelves in September of this year.
