Apple-music-itunes-icon-100594579-origApple has released an Apple Music Android app in the Google Play store. Though promised when Apple Music launched, it's an unusual move for a company famous for its closed ecosystem and not collaborating with competitors like Google.

"We wanted it to be for everyone," Apple exec Eddie Cue told Billboard. "We wanted people to be able to enjoy music on their iPhone, or Android phone, or Windows computer, or Apple TV. Everyone loves music."

The app appears to have most of the functionality of the Apple iOS app with these exceptions during the beta period:

• Music videos are coming soon.
• Family membership sign-ups and upgrades require Mac or iOS.
• Sign-up process to be optimized for Android.
