image from img.global.news.samsung.com"That music critic who really gets it wants to write a review of your latest album, and in exchange you'd like them to be able to offer exclusive first-listens to their readers," begins announcement.  It's been a problem, and direct to fan platform Bandcamp has a solution.

Bandcamp has added an Exclusive Embed feature that gives artists and labels an easy way provide music bloggers and other online outlets an exclusive stream of their latest album. The Exclusive Embed is available for all users during pre-order and Bandcamp Pro subscribers ($10 per monh) can use the feature after the on sale.

Exclusive Embeds can be customized to withhold certain tracks and be sized to fit specific page layouts. Bandcamp also offers Private Embeds for advance reviews and VIPs. The platform also recently added catalog discount bundles.

  1. Bandcamp is an open platform and a lot of people upload albums without any real promotional efforts. That isn’t Bandcamp’s fault. In terms of what they take in exchange for the service they provide I think its a useful platform.

  2. Bandcamp is the first music platform that I have earned real money on. I’ve used lots of similar kinds of sites to promote and sell my music since the late 1990s. To date it’s by far my best provider of exposure, song embeds, and especially sales. To my surprise many customers use the “Name Your Price” feature to generously pay far more than I ask for, and even my free albums make money.
As a listener I only bought 1 or 2 albums a year before I knew about Bandcamp. Since then I’ve discovered and bought tons of new music, at least a couple albums a week. My vinyl collection has grown at least 10x in 2 years of buying from indie bands on Bandcamp. It’s a great site for finding and supporting all kinds of weird, ultra-niche artists that never would have an audience otherwise.
I probably sound like a shill for the company, but as both a musician and fan I consider it the best thing to happen to music in a long time.
