Veteran Paradigm Agent Chip Hooper Dies
Much-loved booking agent Chip Hooper, the worldwide head of music for Paradigm Talent & Literary Agency, died on Saturday after a 4-year battle with cancer. Hooper was the longtime agent for the Dave Matthews Band, Phish and Ray Lamontagne and had been named Pollstar Magazine’s Bobby Brooks Agent of the Year 8 times, more than any other.
The news of his Hooper's death was first announced by Golden Grizzlies coach Greg Kampe via Twitter. Hooper’s son Max plays for the team. "All Grizz fans. Chip Hooper, Max's father lost his battle with cancer tonight," Kampe tweeted. "Please put the Hooper family in your [prayers]. Chip Hooper was as loving and down to earth father of any player I've ever had. He will be missed; I lost a friend, and Oakland lost a fan."
Hooper, who suffered a debilitating stroke in October, was able to attend the Golden Grizzlies' senior day on Feb 26th to watch his son score 12 points in the Golden Grizzlies' 108-97 win over Detroit. It was the first time Hooper had been able to attend one of Max’s games since he transferred to Oakland from St. John's after his sophomore year.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Pistons owner Tom Gores helped arrange Chip Hooper's transportation from his home in Carmel, California to the game in Michigan. After the game, Max Hooper went out into the crowd to hug his father, who was confined to a gurney.
Hooper joined Paradigm when the agency merged with Hooper’s longtime agency home Monterey Peninsula Artists in 2007.
