SoundCloud Launches Paid Subscriptions, Turns On Ads In UK, Ireland

SoundCloud_logo (1)[UPDATED] SoundCloud has launched its paid subscription music streaming GO offering in the UK and Ireland. Ad free subscriptions cost £10 a month, and free users will now face an increasing number of ads. Both moves will lead to long-overdue payments to artists and labels.

SoundCloud Go launched in the US just over a month ago.

“We received an incredible response from our community of creators and listeners alike with the launch of SoundCloud Go in the US earlier this year, and we’re excited to expand our offering to our listeners in the UK & Ireland," said SoundCloud co-founder Alexander Ljung said in a statement. “Creators are, and always have been, at the core of everything we do at SoundCloud. And it’s through this monetization of the platform, which also includes the introduction of ads to the free service, that we will eventually enable them all to be paid for the work they share with the world”.
