Apple Berates Spotify For Asking For “Preferential Treatment”

image from www.hypebot.comApple has now answered the accusation that it caused "grave harm to Spotify and its customers” by rejecting an update to the music streamer's iOS app. “We find it troubling that you are asking for exemptions to the rules we apply to all developers and are publicly resorting to rumors and half-truths about our service,” an Apple attorney wrote to Spotify.

In a letter sent to Spotify obtained by Buzzfeed, Apple general counsel Bruce Sewell rebuffed accusations that Apple is “causing grave harm to Spotify and its customers” by rejecting an update to Spotify’s iOS app.

The letter continues:

Apple-logo “Our guidelines apply equally to all app developers, whether they are game developers, e-book sellers, video-streaming services or digital music distributors; and regardless of whether or not they compete against Apple. We did not alter our behavior or our rules when we introduced our own music streaming service or when Spotify became a competitor… Ironically, it is now Spotify that wants things to be different by asking for preferential treatment from Apple.

…I would be happy to facilitate an expeditious review and approval of your app as soon as you provide us with something that is compliant with the App Store’s rules.”

  1. Actually. This is not about special treatment. This is about questioning their over charging on ALL apps. Spotify happens to be big enough to make a case about their fraudulent practices and shine a light on the situation. Most other apps being raped by Apple are too small to have their complaints heard. This is really about apple’s monopoly and how it takes way more than it should. Surcharge fees for any company shouldn’t exceed 5% and more realistically 1 to 2% just like credit card companies charge. It’d be one thing if Apple took 10% from a service they provided themselves, it’s another thing to take 15% of millions and millions of apps trying to make money off their software alone.
It’s not only wrong, it’s anti competitive because their music service is a conflict of interest to the services they host.
Apple needs to either be Apple Music Or be the App Store providing apps.
They can’t be both without manipulating the rules to ultimate shift revenue on their favor.

  2. Bullshit. It’s the same with Google and their store, they also take a 30 % cut of all apps for Android and for all media, same with Alaeon, same with practically every similar digital store. and yet you don’t hear Spitify complaining that Google also sells music.
Spotify community managers are soooo lame.
