So a few days ago while working on one of my clients, The Zusters, Facebook Pages I stumbled across a feature I had never seen before, I hadn’t even heard about it. Facebook Groups being connected to Facebook Pages. Matt Navarra from The Next Web and Social Media Today reported on this, Facebook Testing New Option to Allow Pages to Post in Groups, after I shared a screen capture on Mari Smith’s Facebook Page asking if anyone knew more about the feature.

It appeared as a tab in the left navigation. When clicked it says, “Facebook groups let people connect with your Page and each other. Now you can interact with people in your groups as your Page, and your Page can an admin of these groups.” It goes on to give you two options:

  1. Create Group
  2. Link Your Group

connect a facebook group to a facebook page

Wow! Very exciting and interesting! This feature does not seem to be rolled out widely, as a matter of fact none of the other couple dozen Pages I manage have this feature. The Page with the Groups tab is a Band/Musician Page.

This page didn’t have a Group so I went ahead and created one… gotta see what happens!

Clicking the Link Your Group brings up this screen of Groups you are a admin.

select facebook group to link to facebook page

I just clicked Link Group for The Zusters Group I just created.

Now when you click the Groups tab in the Facebook Page you see this, a link to the connected Group. You still have the option to Create a Group or Link to a Group. You can link to more than one Group. The far right dropdown allows you to unlink a Group.

facebook group is connected to a facebook page

Once your Page is connected to the Group it is automatically made a admin in the Group.

Now when you post in the Group you have choice of posting as You or the Page.

That appears to be the extent of this feature at this time. The promise of what this feature can do is exciting! Soon you can easily tie your Facebook Page and Groups into one community.

  1. Go to the page you linked to a group. Scroll down on the Fan/Biz Page timeline until you see the list of groups. View All. You should then see a list of groups. Click the down arrow for the one you wan tot unlink.

  6. I dont know… I have many pages and in all pages except one page this facility is available. I have a page named Trishagraphy started many years before. Now I created a group with the same name. I want to link Trishagraphy page and group. I cannot see the tab GROUP in the add tab section…. In the group , there is a facility to link pages with the group. When I click on there, I can see the list of all my pages except Trishagraphy page… I am tired … Pls tell me a solution…..

  7. That is disaster! Yesterday I have linked couple of groups to my page and the admin is only my group. Today I can’t manage my groups because the admin of the groups is my page and I can’t manage it. All groups are free and whitout and admin now! Disaster!

  8. That is disaster! Yesterday I have linked couple of groups to my page and the admin is only my faceboo page, not me. Today I can’t manage my groups because the admin of the groups is my facebook page and I can’t manage it. All groups are free and whitout any control! There is no option to manage groups from fb page. Disaster!

  9. What is the consensus as to linking private groups with pages. I linked my private group to my business page and im noticing not the same amount of engagement within my private group. Does the algorithm change? This is no bueno.

  10. Researchers at the Seoul National University Medical School have reported that smartphone addiction/cell phone addiction, a tool that uses SNS, is related to mental health. The researchers found that they were “smartphone addicts” who used the smartphone more than twice as much as the general public in the case of stress, depression, and anxiety.

  11. I don’t have a “Group” tab, just a “Community” tab. I can find it on my other Pages/groups, but not this one. Does the Page have to be some kind of special configuration, like a local business or something?

  12. Thank you! This option came up for me today, but I had to search forever to find out why I would want to do this and what the benefits were. Great post – just what I was looking for…and more.

  13. Hi,
I am the admin of both the page and the groups. There are other admins though.
When i go on the Group tab of the page, i don’t see the option “link to a group”m but just “create a group”.
Any idea why? I read something saying it has to be a buisiness page. Is it the case?
