Spotify Names Dawn Ostroff Head Of Content, As Streamer Eyes Original Content, Direct Deals

OstroffSpotify stock is up and one reason is excitement over aggressive moves into original content and direct deals with artists. The latest signal is the announcement that Condé Nast's innovative new media executive Dawn Ostroff has been named the music streamer's new Chief Content Officer.

Spotify new rectangleOstroff will be based in the company’s New York offices and oversee Spotify''s Shows & Editorial team, including playlists, headed by Nick Holmsten, Studios & Video (run by Courtney Holt), Creator Services (Troy Carter), Creator Marketplace (Charlie Hellman), and Content Operations departments (Sam Young).

Ostroff joins the Spotify team from Condé Nast, where she led the company’s entertainment division since 2011. Previously, she served as president The CW network as it rebranded from UPN. She oversaw the launch of  “America’s Top Model” and “Vampire Diaries.”

Ostroff will assume her new role at Spotify in August and replaces Stefan Blom, who exited the streaming service earlier this year.
