2004 was a breakout year for the von Trapp Children, whose joyful singing has been welcomed with open arms by the public. As 2005 unfolds, they not only celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the film that immortalized their family’s story, but spark the international revitalization of a legacy that has captured the hearts of millions around the world.
The children attracted rave reviews and lines around the block last year at performances with the Atlanta and Detroit Symphonies. Their success has fostered return dates to both cities and a string of 2005 performances that are in the works with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Pops, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Phoenix, and San Antonio Symphonies to name a few.
2004 also bore the von Trapps’ first world tours, which included both Korea and Japan. After the amazing success of their performance in Seoul City Square last October, they have been invited to tour Korea this spring. Their bourgeoning international appeal has triggered talks to return to Japan and visit China in late 2005. In addition, they have been asked to perform in August at the prestigious La Nuit des Choeurs in Brussels, Belgium. Past festivals have featured acts such as The Red Army Choir and Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares.
Following the release of two new records, The von Trapp Children Volume II and Christmas with The von Trapp Children, the group enjoyed coveted articles in many of the major newspapers around the country and appeared on several highly rated network and cable television programs. Both records sold well and when the group was featured on QVC last November they moved nearly 9,000 copies in 10 minutes- on par with heavy hitters like Kenny G. The von Trapps will head into the studio again later this year to record their fourth album, while plans for a commercial DVD release in September are currently underway.
