6am – 6pm (ET/PT), the channels will each add their spin to a cross section of genres, exposing new artists chosen by fan activity on Viacom's Artist Platform alongside major artists.

How To Be Part Of Music Independence Day

To participate in Music
Independence Day, artists simply claim or create their page on the Artist
Platform (artists.MTV.com, artists.CMT.com or artists.VH1.com), and opt in to “Music
Independence Day
.” These free Artist Platforms are powered by Topspin, but non-Topspin artists can participate.

Whether chosen for on-air exposure or not, the networks are encouraging all artists to be part of the day by driving fans to their pages via social networks and
#MusicIndependenceDay, where they can invite listeners to purchase music, leave
tips and show their support.  “We want
to let fans discover and really love up musicians, give a tip, buy them a beer
or simply send a message of support,” said Van Toffler, President of Viacom
Music Group.
