Study: Mobile Music Will Grow 3X To $5.5B By 2015

image from 8.mshcdn.com A report published recently by Juniper Research forecast that the number of mobile users who pay a monthly subscription for access to music, either download or streaming, will triple over 2010 levels to reach 178 million and $5.5 billion in revenue by 2015.  But in other areas of mobile music, the study tells a much different story:

The ringtone market, which has been in decline for a number of years, will continue to do so. Mobile device users have learned that web services and apps can enable them to create their own ringtones negating the need to purchase them.

Other findings of the report:

  • Ringback tones will remain largely a phenomena of the Chinese market
  • The market for mobile music videos will grow steadily over the forecast period
