Universal Fire Destroys Music History

NEW BUSINESS COULD EMERGE FROM THE ASHES

UniversalUPDATED: "We moved most of what was formerly stored there earlier this year to our other facilities," Universal Music told Digital Music News.  "Of the small amount that was still there and awaiting to be moved,  it had already been digitized so the music will still be around for many years."

I guess my idea for a new melted vinyl based business will just have to wait.  But read on. It was a great idea.

Universal Music apparently rented
space in the video vault which suffered heavy fire damage yesterday. A source told Deadline Hollywood (via Daily Swarm) that inside were 1000’s of original Decca, MCA and ABC mastersMelted_records_2 including Bing Crosby, The
Andrew Sisters, Judy Garland and The
Carpenters.

If true, it’s sad the masters were not stored in a more fire proof environment. On the bright side, perhaps UMG can turn around its fading fortunes by going into the ash tray and snack bowl business.  "How To" video follows.
