# BitTorrent’s New Startup Acceleration Program Targets Music Discovery And Usage

BitTorrent continues its [legitimacy offensive](https://www.hypebot.com/bittorrents-legitimacy-offensive-media-appearances-patent-alex-days-million-downloads/) by debuting an acceleration program for startups in such areas as music/video discovery and usage as well as live streaming. It's not an accelerator where you spend time in residence and give up a percentage of ownership for an investment. Instead, while investments may be forthcoming, it's a program that supports initiatives relying on the BitTorrent protocol in a variety of significant ways.

Last week BitTorrent [opened](http://blog.bittorrent.com/2013/04/23/bittorrent-sync-alpha-now-open-to-all/?ref=hypebot.com) their [BitTorrent Sync](http://labs.bittorrent.com/experiments/sync.html?ref=hypebot.com) in Alpha making it available for free, unlimited, secure file-syncing and transfer.

Apparently they weren't busy enough so they also [announced](http://blog.bittorrent.com/2013/04/24/the-bittorrent-acceleration-program-supporting-startups/?ref=hypebot.com) the launch of the [BitTorrent Acceleration Program](http://labs.bittorrent.com/accelerate/?ref=hypebot.com).

**Here's the deal:**

"We’re opening up our innovation lab to new media startups. If you have a publicly available product in sound, film, live streaming, media sharing, or peer-to-peer technologies, we’ll work with you to accelerate your idea’s success."

"Qualified applicants will receive an initial assessment of their service against our product vision and market. Select participants will get to user-test product ideas with over 170 million BitTorrent users. They’ll also receive advertising and product placement within the BitTorrent ecosystem, as well as potential partnership, investment, and acquisition opportunities."

That's pretty cool if you're working on a relevant project or have had one in mind and wish to get some serious support.

**So who's eligible?**

"All you need is a product, service, pipe dream, or impossible idea that’s publicly available. We’re looking for projects in these areas:"

*Music / video discovery and usage*

*Personal file sharing*

*Live streaming*

*P2P technologies*
