On Music Think Tank, **[Bruce Warila](http://twitter.com/?ref=hypebot.com#%21/brucewarila)** writes about getting the music advertising ROI (Return On Investment) calculation right. It sounds like a subject just for geeks, until you realize that after making great music and social media, advertising can be the most effective way to grow an audience quickly. Inexpensive hyper-targeted paid campaigns (i.e. ReverbNation's [Facebook ads](http://www.reverbnation.com/main/overview%5Fartist?feature=promoteit&utm%5Fsource=Hypebot&utm%5Fmedium=Banner&utm%5Fcontent=Promote%2BIt&utm%5Fcampaign=Promote%2BIt%2B-%2BHypebot%2BBanner) or even [Headliner.fm)](http://d1.openx.org/ck.php?oaparams=2%5F%5Fbannerid=603628%5F%5Fzoneid=189379%5F%5FOXLCA=1%5F%5Fcb=68a8fed1d9%5F%5Fr%5Fid=11041df7d00bd7f0596eec96b43cb09a%5F%5Fr%5Fts=ltzpil%5F%5Foadest=http%3A%2F%2Fheadliner.fm%2Flanding%2Fpartner.php%3Ftsid%3Dhypebot%5Fba&ref=hypebot.com) can drive traffic in ways that were unthinkable a few years ago. Of course, nothing is quite that simple:

"As more and more labels and artists use advertising to bridge the gaps between social media islands, it’s essential to get the advertising return on investment (ROI) calculation correct. If a potential fan is not yet a fan, and if a pre-fan is not really a fan, then you need to apply TWO conversion rates to your ROI calculation."
